Last Saturday the Wesleyan Theological Alliance, the Hungarian Methodist Church, and the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary jointly sponsored a Wesley/Luther Theology Day. Main presenters were Dr. Manfred Marquardt, Director of the Reutlingen Theological Seminary in Germany and Dr. Wolfgang Breul, Professor of Church History at the University of Mainz in Germany. In addition to these two distinguished scholars, presentations were made by Hungarian scholars András Mikesy, László Khaled, and Zoltán Kovács.
This year's Theology Day was a challenging one, for two reasons. First, the main presenters spoke in German with no accompanying translation. Since less than half of the audience spo
ke German, a Hungarian translation of the presenters' texts was provided, but that didn't necessarly mean that was was printed was what was said. Second, all of the presentations were of a highly academic nature. This was definitely NOT a Theology Day for the average churchgoer.
One highlight of the day was a musical performance by Péter Tóth and Rudolf Gusztin, which you can view below. If you can understand Hungarian or German, you can find more information about the Theology Day, including videos and downloads of the texts, at this site: http://www.evangelikus.hu/luther-%C3%A9s-wesley-teol%C3%B3giai-konferencia-EHE
